A big step for traffic safety in Alingsås – thanks to Prisma Light Ella AID!
Improved Traffic Safety on Noltorpsgatan
On Noltorpsgatan in Alingsås, traffic safety has long been a challenge. The crosswalk, which is an important passage for both pedestrians and cyclists, has previously been accident-prone and unsafe—especially during the dark months of the year. However, the location has now received a significant upgrade through a modern and innovative solution: the lighting system Prisma Light Ella AID, developed by us at PrismaTibro.
This project was carried out as a collaboration between PrismaTibro, Alingsås Energi, and Alingsås Municipality. A pilot project that demonstrates how new technology can make a significant difference for both safety and security in everyday life. Prisma Light Ella AID uses bright white light to make the crosswalk more visible to pedestrians and a flashing orange light to warn drivers of approaching pedestrians. By clearly marking the crosswalk, not only is safety improved but also the overall experience of the area.
The largest portion—about 30%—of all accidents between motor vehicles and pedestrians occur at or near crosswalks. Pedestrians are particularly vulnerable at crosswalks, especially in densely populated areas with heavy traffic.
Previously, the municipality used flashing lights to warn drivers at the crosswalk; however, the effect was limited. Therefore, Alingsås chose to test a new solution together with us at PrismaTibro. The result has exceeded expectations—the poles have not only created a safer traffic environment but have also shown that innovation and modern design can solve real challenges.
Positive Feedback from Users
At the inauguration, children from Lövhyddans preschool participated; they use the crosswalk daily on their way to and from preschool. For the children, it was an exciting opportunity to test the crosswalk in its new form, and both children and adults expressed joy over the change. As one of the preschool teachers stated: “We use the crosswalk in our activities when we go on excursions and walks; it feels very safe to know that we are visible when we cross. Many who work at the preschool also use it to get to and from work. It is dark many months of the year, and it feels very comforting to know that you can be seen.”
A Model for Future Investments
It is also important to highlight the role that the collaboration between the municipality and PrismaTibro has played in this project. Being able to combine the municipality’s need for increased safety with PrismaTibro’s technical expertise and product development has been crucial for success. Through the lighting provided by Prisma Light Ella AID, Alingsås now has a solution that not only meets today’s requirements but also has potential for implementation in other areas of the municipality.
Lars-Ivan Gustafsson (S), vice chairman of the technical committee, also sees great opportunities for the future. He points out that this project could serve as a model for future investments in other locations within the municipality.
In addition to safety, the project highlights the value of innovative and sustainable solutions like Prisma Light Ella AID. The poles are not only functional but also energy-efficient and designed for long durability, making them an excellent choice for municipalities looking to invest in future-proof solutions.
Thank you to Alingsås Energi and everyone else involved in this project! We look forward to more exciting initiatives with Prisma Light Ella AID and other innovative solutions that prioritize people’s safety and security.
